About Screamer of the Week
“Screamer of the Week” is a deliberate freakout dance party celebration of 80’s music. Step into the back room at Carroll Place and let it be your time machine back into the decade when there were no worries broadcast to you by iPhones…when you were just out dancing your ass off and “daring to be different”!
An electronic duo and the brainchild of two of New York City’s most notable and versatile musical artists/performers, Tony Bruno and Chris Campion.
Good friends Tony (musical director for Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, and lead guitarist for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts) and Chris (leadsinger of power pop combo Knockout Drops and author of the critically acclaimed rock/recovery memoir “Escape from Bellevue”) were brought together by their mutual love of legendary postpunk-postmod New York radio station, WLIR.
Famous for breaking bands like The Cure, U2, The Smiths, and The Police, WLIR led the charge of the second British invasion of music that started in the early ’80’s and continued on throughout the decade. The name of their group was pulled from WLIR’s famous “Screamer of the Week” competition where it’s listernership would vote on and choose it’s favorite of that week’s new releases. New wave classics like The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me” and Duran Duran’s “Rio” were all once Screamers. “
